• 5 Tips for Better Networking

October 06, 2017

Networking. The importance of the word is easy to understand, the importance is recognized, yet the act of networking can be intimidating. Recently I talked about networking with the queen herself, Miss Erin Cummings from Nationwide.
Erin reminded me that networking can often lead to friendships, memories, even a new job or opportunity. When going to an event or a new place, networking should always be something you focus on. Below are a few tips we came up for help you become the next networking queen.
  1.     Face your Fear

Confidence can be one of the biggest setbacks in life. The biggest key to being a successful networker is to take a deep breath, remind yourself that you are awesome, and go for it.

  1.     Find a Friend

They say that two is better than one. If you love to network and meet people, bring someone with you who might need a little push. If networking is not your strong suit, find someone who can show you the ropes.

  1.     Set a Goal

Before you talk to anyone, decide what your goal is. Whether it is to meet someone with a certain interest or to get five business cards, having a goal will help you get the most out of your efforts.

  1.     Start with a Compliment

Receiving a compliment is a great feeling. Is the gal standing next to you wearing a cute statement necklace? Tell her!  Did the keynote speaker give an outstanding message? Let her know!

  1.     Follow Up

Remember that relationships are key. Once you have business cards or contact information, reach back out and continue the conversation to ensure the person becomes a part of your network.
