• Inspire Every HER

November 23, 2015

On November 13, women came together from the state of Iowa to inform and inspire each other about opportunities in agriculture for the first time, organized by FarmHer.  The day consisted of brilliant speakers, including Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey; FSA Chief of Staff, Lesly Weber-McNitt; Dean of the ISU College of Agriculture, Wendy Wintersteen; Iowa FFA Leadership Development Manager, Rachel Kagay; and Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds.  The breakout sessions and professional luncheon were filled with knowledgeable and strong women that shared their passion with others.  It was amazing to see this many people come together and truly be excited about something: the future.

As the room filled with young women, ages 15-23, the energy and excitement increased as well. Almost 200 young women were able to network and connect with professionals while visiting the Connection Point, which consisted of 17 businesses and organizations who sponsored the event. The “Women Leading the Way” Luncheon gave everyone in attendance the opportunity to share advice with each other.

As the day went on, speakers shared their thoughts and the attendees filled their notebooks with noteworthy advice and tips. The women attended two of the five breakout sessions, which included Share your Story- Blogger Panel; Power of STEM Panel; Do What You Love- Farmer Panel; Capture the Moment- Photography by FarmHer; and Going Global- An International Perspective. Each breakout session consisted of sharing knowledge about a specific topic and questions asked from the attendees.

The day ended on a positive note as Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and FarmHer Founder and President Marji Guyler-Alaniz shared advice and inspiration. The women who participated in Grow by Future FarmHer left the event with new connections and inspiration about the industry. I left the day full of exhaustion, satisfaction, and excitement from the women who surrounded me the entire day. I don’t know what the future holds but if it’s up to the women who attended Grow by Future FarmHer, the future is in good hands.
